Here's a nice link to some of the Japanese Ukiyoe woodblock prints. My senior high school thesis was on the impact of Ukiyoe prints on French impressionists. See the picture by Cezanne posted below. Cezanne just literally copied the three puppies from a Japanese print. Notice that he painted no shadows--a very important influence of Ukiyoe.

@ocilam 鎖国が終わり、日本が初参加した1867年のパリの万博がジャポニズムの契機になったんですよね。印象派の画家のみんなではないけれど、単なるオリエンタリズムを超えて、遠近法がない浮世絵の画法に物凄い刺激を受けた人たちの絵画の変化が面白いです。
@JapanProf ゴッホはかなり有名ですよね!逆に北斎が西洋画を真似した絵もあったりして、「鎖国」とは言いつつ海を超えてお互いに遠いところから影響を与えあっていたことにロマンを感じてしまいます…😌
