A lot of people came to Mastodon temporarily today due to a short-lived outage on Twitter for a bit of time, with large servers including mstdn.jp and pawoo.net being heavily loaded at once, clogging the queues of many servers through the coalition. In no time at all, many of the servers exceeded their capacity.
At fedibird.com, 7,000 jobs piled up in the queue.
@noellabo Kind of sad, Mastodon is good enough and decentralized enough that it could support majority of twitter user if given enough initiation by various members using mastodon to host their own instances.
@centi In Japan, only mstdn.jp and pawoo.net are well known to Twitter users. The number of users is also skewed. There are also a few known servers that specialize in specific games and vocaloids, but this is not a general purpose audience. I'd like to have a more distributed situation.
@noellabo Yeah, often time, we have to rent a VPS and set up our own mastodon server from there. The other issue is how fast it eat up storage in database when one attempt to run it.
