@koyu A release is being prepared. I took some time off after 3.0, then had to work on a lot of non-code aspects of my position, from dealing with devops, community management, managing other people working for me, to documentation matters, homepage changes, social media updates, & answering journalist inquiries. I was able to divert my attention to those things because 3.0 works quite well. No low-hanging fruit is left, so development is naturally going slower, a lot more planning than coding

@koyu :blobcatthinking: what about an increased default character length? seems like pretty low hanging fruit to me (a one-line change).

@koyu The reason such small things are not part of Mastodon is not my inability to do them but an ideological disagreement with them. The UI has been designed around 500 characters and supporting every possible permutation of limitations is just not the Mastodon approach. Less variables to design around means more guarantees of UX quality. I do not mind the Gnome/KDE analogy.

@Gargron @mewmew @koyu@koyu.space From another point of view, the situation is different depending on the language because it is defined by the number of characters. As an example, if you write 500 characters in Japanese, the height of the text block will be doubled. Also, if 500 characters of Japanese are translated into English, it will be about 1200 characters.

Isn't the result of unintended results in both UI design and the amount of information that can be described? (Japanese is comfortable!)
