@dk_k I no longer try to explain how the fediverse works to people. I just send them a link to an instance (usually mine) and say it is alternative to Twitter, and less political censorship. If they use it, they figure out why so many usernames have foreign domain names with them in about a week or two.
@NEETzsche Maybe there are some differences between japan and your country. For example, Common japanese are unfamilliar to english/alphabet, or web technology. They looks domain name as "some mysteryous text".

@dk_k I was in Tokyo in 2017 and I think I understand. Regular people there used technology that was typical of the 1990s. It was very aesthetic, that city. However, the difference between nations was intense. In American cities, you hear a cacophony of voices walking on the sidewalk, but in Tokyo, I heard only footsteps and cars. The people also viewed the world very differently.
