@bourgwick btw, this blog has some photos of the almost negative fanfare given the concert at the Aichi Prefecture Opera House.

I was so overwhelmed by the security theater at the entrance and exit that it didn’t even strike me to take a photo.
just like the dead had a dylan slot in their setlists, for now it seems that dylan has a dead slot. another "not fade away" last night. and (courtesy of the great @rayfp) the first complete, gorgeous "brokedown palace" from opening night in nagoya: https://dylanlive.substack.com/p/two-more-nights-in-tokyo-by-matthew #deadfreaksunite

@bourgwick Yeah. There were some cool little jams throughout the show, including NFA, all suitably understated without really clear soloists. I was feelin’ their groove, and Bob seemed to have been in fairly strong voice. I could catch what he was saying quite clearly. Anyway, looking forward to what the more determined managed to pull, and curious if anything comes from the recording they appeared to be making.
@bourgwick The ceiling is (grows so) incredibly high and there are these epic red felt (maybe felt) curtains around the stage. The lighting made it seem like a grander version of a scene from Twin Peaks. If you’ve ever seen a ballgame at Wrigley Field, that gives you some idea of the seating conditions, but mercifully we had thickly padded soft upholstery. Bob was almost entirely shrouded in darkness (AI?) for the first 3 or 4 songs, one of which was Masterpiece. We also got a NFA. Mostly Rough & Rowdy, and 2 or 3 tunes I never recognized.
@bourgwick The security was such that I joked with the ticket-taker, asking if this was where I should show my passport. Her expression never changed and she didn’t even acknowledge that I’d said anything. My wife then began to question whether or not the staff and perhaps some of the audience were actually artificial intelligence experiments. We don’t get out into these sort of crowd control situaltions very often, so the whole scene was pretty weird in the prefectural government’s opera house, which was a scene unto itself.
@bourgwick At one point we thought maybe it was just a psychology experiement to see what several hundred people would do when deprived of their smart phones for an hour before the show.
@bourgwick Well, you’d have to have a slightly more elaborate plan than me if you were hoping to tape anything. All “smart” “phones” were asked to be off, and were locked into cushioned nylon bags at the entrance. All bags were checked, but not aggressively. Interestingly, there were 2 large diaphragm microphones in shock mounts on short stands at the stage lip at about 8-10 meters distance. There were also two mics parallel to the piano as if for back up singers, but no one ever used the to sing. They were pointed directly at the drummer.

@bourgwick Well, I’m not making any promises… not even in the fediverse! 😉
@bourgwick I saw a link to the Thursday tape while I was at work yesterday, but haven’t listened yet. As we know, a rough tape is always better than no tape at all. 😉 Having a rough and rowdy breakfast atm. I’m thoroughly unfamiliar with this material. 😅
@bourgwick Wow. Getting very excited for Wednesday’s Nagoya set. It’s my wife’s birthday present. The only thing that would make her more happy about it would be if Joan Baez sat in. Bob doesn’t allow open taping, does he? Not sure any major venue in Japan would get their head around the concept even if he did, tbh.
@thor I was thinking that English has similar roots to Scandanavian languages and related, as you say, to Dutch and German, so I wasn’t sure if “loan words” was an entirely accurate description. The loan words in English, I would think, come from latin, and more specifically, French. I find it interesting that English speakers can choose vocabulary to be more readily recognizable to romance language speakers. Btw, do you consider Finland a “Scandanavian” country? Just curious, because that’s an entirely different language family, isn’t it?
@thor The word “hashtag” has been around for a seemingly long time. I would have imagined that by now some word would already have been established in the vernacular.
Fwiw, the Japanese language simply transliterates it to, “has’shyutag’goo”. I’m not sure if there is a committee to decide these things, or if everyone just goes with what’s trendy among highschool girls.
Sometimes there are top-down inventions like the “maïnanbaäkaädo” [My Number Card], despite the existence of a word for “social security.”
