The US had hoped to avoid using its veto if other states objected to the draft resolution, but ultimately had to wield it in support of Israel.

@oatmeal @israel @palestine Daniel Levy, who served as the Israeli negotiator in Oslo 2 peace negotiations, would agree. He talks about how the US was never was an honest broker of peace but was and participated “Israel’s lawyer” and that this was the major obstacle of the peace process.
