In some science fiction stories, women are no different from dolls, only props serving the narrative itself. In a specific sub-genre of science fiction called gender SF, by contrast,  writers clearly aim to make the reader reconsider gender bias that  people in the modern society have. The genre of science fiction as a whole would be described generous in that sense―precisely opposite attitudes toward femaleness coexist together.
