50 years ago tonight, the #gratefuldead in minnesota, on the future site of the mall of america. mid-fall ’73, show #3. soundboard: https://archive.org/details/gd1973-10-23.sbd.miller.92792.sbeok.flac16 [1/5]
10/23/73 bloomington, MN: soundcheck sliver of WANG DANG DOODLE with garcia on vocals, 10 years ahead of weir’s dead debut. k. godchaux plays wurlitzer on soundcheck, as well as BLACK THROATED WIND & TRUCKIN’ during proper show (& ignores it on ROW JIMMY & other “wake of the flood” songs where he used organ), sounding more natural than his keyboard explorations earlier in fall. notes say it belonged to the venue, but it turns up on the next 2 shows, too. @mrcompletely @bourgwick Trying to stop typing my random words in public, but that kazoo-sophone(?) bit in the middle was wild. I bet Jerry loved that. The scat jam at the end is amazing. Something tells me Bobby wasn't listening to the Pointer Sisters' version. 🤔 Thank you.🙇♂️ Sorry to butt in.
@mrcompletely @bourgwick It's always uncomfortable when two people who know what they're talking about are interrupted by someone who doesn't. 🙇♂️ I won't dominate the rap, jack. Please carry on.
@blastingrod @bourgwick public conversations aren't meant to be exclusive, no worries on that front. I agree Weir's inspirations are likely a bit more straightforward.
