and last night in tokyo, after playin' "truckin'" at the previous show, #BobDylan debuted the #GratefulDead's "brokedown palace," though stopped after a few verses & said something like, "i thought i knew this song." https://www.boblinks.com/041423s.html
@bourgwick Wow. Getting very excited for Wednesday’s Nagoya set. It’s my wife’s birthday present. The only thing that would make her more happy about it would be if Joan Baez sat in. Bob doesn’t allow open taping, does he? Not sure any major venue in Japan would get their head around the concept even if he did, tbh.
@blastingrod amazing, have fun!! there've definitely been stealth tapers at every show so far & they sound pretty decent. haven't seen the brokedown palace get posted yet but I bet it will be soon.
@bourgwick I saw a link to the Thursday tape while I was at work yesterday, but haven’t listened yet. As we know, a rough tape is always better than no tape at all. 😉 Having a rough and rowdy breakfast atm. I’m thoroughly unfamiliar with this material. 😅
@blastingrod as bob says, "some of these bootleggers, they make pretty good stuff." the recent recordings aren't even that rough, especially cuz dylan crowds are pretty quiet/respectful. was just listening to an audience tape from last year that almost sounds board like.
@bourgwick Well, I’m not making any promises… not even in the fediverse! 😉
@bourgwick Well, you’d have to have a slightly more elaborate plan than me if you were hoping to tape anything. All “smart” “phones” were asked to be off, and were locked into cushioned nylon bags at the entrance. All bags were checked, but not aggressively. Interestingly, there were 2 large diaphragm microphones in shock mounts on short stands at the stage lip at about 8-10 meters distance. There were also two mics parallel to the piano as if for back up singers, but no one ever used the to sing. They were pointed directly at the drummer.
@bourgwick At one point we thought maybe it was just a psychology experiement to see what several hundred people would do when deprived of their smart phones for an hour before the show.
@bourgwick The ceiling is (grows so) incredibly high and there are these epic red felt (maybe felt) curtains around the stage. The lighting made it seem like a grander version of a scene from Twin Peaks. If you’ve ever seen a ballgame at Wrigley Field, that gives you some idea of the seating conditions, but mercifully we had thickly padded soft upholstery. Bob was almost entirely shrouded in darkness (AI?) for the first 3 or 4 songs, one of which was Masterpiece. We also got a NFA. Mostly Rough & Rowdy, and 2 or 3 tunes I never recognized.
