@thor I was thinking that English has similar roots to Scandanavian languages and related, as you say, to Dutch and German, so I wasn’t sure if “loan words” was an entirely accurate description. The loan words in English, I would think, come from latin, and more specifically, French. I find it interesting that English speakers can choose vocabulary to be more readily recognizable to romance language speakers. Btw, do you consider Finland a “Scandanavian” country? Just curious, because that’s an entirely different language family, isn’t it?
