How to choose a Mastodon server

Mastodon is designed to be a decentralized social network, and it's strengths come when it's decentralized.
I'm sure you've always thought that choosing the most well-known, popular, and popular service would be a good choice.
With Mastodon this is not necessarily the case. Rather, there are many cases where it is better to avoid such servers and choose a medium-sized server, or a smaller server, or your own server.
Another fun thing that you can notice when you run your own fediverse instance: the amount of Twitter refugees.
Fun fact: I actually run a fediverse instance (not Mastodon either). It's the most over-engineered thing there is and it's all running from a Raspberry Pi behind my couch. I should do a blog about it some day.
It's been a while since I've used this account, but it seems with the Twitter exodus I'll need a new place to follow all the Twitter people. Hello
