@kawasigh12 I missed the first post so I don't know which kind of society it is, but if it's full of people like the self-important prof _and_ it has fees, it's probably not worth bothering with. If he's an exception, though, maybe it is.

Perhaps write the society's secretary and ask whether it would be okay to visit a meeting. Then you'll have more indication of what the general mood is like.
