Bekah took the empty bucket and headed out toward the well.

Oh she'd been told the well was dry, she'd been told it was full of old junk, she'd been told the water was bad-

"One bucket of clean water, please," Bekah said as she offered the bucket down to the bony hand that waited.

"Of course, Bekah." And after a moment, the bucket was offered back, full of clean clear water.

"Thank you," Bekah replied as the bony hand vanished.

It was the best water she'd ever tasted.

But that would remain a secret, just like everything else in the well.

I updated my tiny little handheld-emulation-box website with a tiny little post about how Game Dads can create time for you to play games that you wouldn't have otherwise had time to play:

gamedad.club/meta_timecondense

Sometimes we think "I don't have time to do fun stuff," when the reality is even sadder; we DO have time, we have LOTS of time, but our time is all chopped up, like bits of string too short to be of any use, so it gets eaten up by the doomscrolling anxiety rectangle. This little post is about letting the Game Dad act as a time condenser, rescuing those useless seconds from the Feel Bad Machine and turning them into fun minutes filled with good stuff instead.

D'you remember having a good time in a mechanic's waiting room? I do, because last time I spent it playing Final Fantasy Tactics! Anyway have a gander at my silly little website lol

Anyone can start their own server on the Fediverse. It's much cheaper and easier than people realise.

You don't need to be a technical nerd, you don't need to install anything or update anything or own any equipment.

Non-technical people can use a "managed hosting" service which means you pay a small monthly fee (usually 5 to 10 euros a month) which includes the cost of the hosting and the hosting company does all the tech stuff for you.

More info at:

Son 2 was on a bday party yesterday and came back with a #batman facepainting.
I was wondering of my wife would manage to get it off before dropping him at preschool.

Turns out she didn't.

Instead he decided to wear black and also a pair of bat wings we had lying around from some children's costume.

As the saying goes: "be yourself. If you can't do that, be Batman."

Wanna know something sweet?

My mum, who passed away earlier this year, was part of a Thursday coffee group. Her and her ladies would alternate between each others houses every week. They had done this for 30+ years.

Anyway, the ladies were quick to “offer” her spot to my dad when she was no longer around to take it, and he accepted. So for the last few months he’s been part of the Thursday coffee group, getting all the gossip and generally hanging out with the crew.

When I spoke to my mum and dad every weekend on FaceTime, I’d get the latest gossip from coffee time from my mum, and now I get it from my dad instead.

So just know, although there is a lot of horrific crap that goes on in this world, there are plenty of sweet human moments as well. They just don’t make for good headlines.

A bizarre legend is associated with a tomb in Paris's Pere La Chaise Cemetery. In a mausoleum decorated with occult numbers and strange symbols, a 19th-century Russian aristocrat is said to lie in a glass coffin. A clause in her will apparently stated that anyone who could live alongside her in the tomb for a year would receive a payout of up to five million francs ($1 million in modern money). The contender was allowed to leave their gloomy lodgings just once a day 'to stroll among the tombs for an hour'. All who attempted the challenge were soon begging to be let out, claiming the 'vampire princess' was sucking away their lifeforce. Did a bunch of mostly-invisible website work over the weekend when not sleeping off a headcold.

I'll get back to archiving when I can. I just have a lot of projects right now that need some degree of sorting.

(And multiple projects with characters that need names. Why are names? WHY.)

Rian gasped as he stepped into the still green and blooming even in late autumn glassed-in rose garden.

"Yes," he said immediately. It would just be for the winter, and he knew his employers wouldn't have given him a second glance without the recommendation of their absent gardener.

But it would be a winter where he'd be warm and could tend to roses and not have to hide his horns.

"Then get to work," he was told, and Rian nodded. He set his pack on the path and smiled.

Roses! All winter!

Rian didn't need another word; he'd work happily.

"Kell, Kell," the little forest faeries cried as they flitted around him. "Kell, Kell, there's a dragon!"

Kell had not worn his armor, nor had be bothered with a weapon beyond his trusty knife. He was out for an amble among sturdy old trees and friendly fae, not out for...

He considered, as the forest faeries kept swarming him. "Kell, Kell, a dragon."

"What would you have me do?" Kell asked. He had not sped nor slowed his pace.

"Kell, Kell, a dragon," they insisted, reaching for his clothes and hair and horns.

"Kell, Kell, a bride!"
