Quill looked out into the pitch black night one last time before making sure he had everything he needed.
He closed his eyes and listened until he heard the faintest of rustles and then sounds unlike any heard in the daytime.
The sounds grew closer, though when Quill opened his eyes to peer out again, he still saw nothing.
Silently, he waited, until the sound was nearly to him.
And then he lit the lantern on his patio table, illuminating the late dinner he'd prepared.
He heard the rustle, the noise, and then, there, it grinned-
-famished.
Moyna looked out at the graveyard now under her care. The advert had promised housing, benefits, and more for someone who enjoyed working outside in a quiet location. She indeed had a tiny cottage to live in and could work as she pleased.
She'd been able to bring her husband along and had put him back to rest in a lovely sunny spot with proper space for herself some years down the road.
Things weren't always as quiet as advertised, but Moyna didn't much mind that either...
No, that was probably a benefit.
And, of course, a secret.
giant wood moths are wild, I really wanna meet one. they weigh up to 30 grams, which is super hefty for a moth. to lift that much weight they end up having a wingspan of about 20cm.
they have a fuzzy heart-shaped pattern on their head and their front legs look like pipe cleaners. I bet they're super soft.
they're only found in a few areas of Australia and they're a comparatively rare sight even then.
"You have a spring in your step today, Idalia."
Idalia smiled at her supervisor. She supposed she did, though mostly she was happy that she'd been noticed at all and by name, even!
She'd been "you" and "new girl" for the last three years no matter what skills she learned and mastered. If the work hadn't otherwise been really decent, Idalia was sure she would have just left one day and not returned.
But instead she'd decided to learn a few more skills, including summoning and magic.
Idalia wondered if she'd still need her army of skeletons.
Albert sat to rest for a moment, his workout nearly complete. The sun was higher than he'd realized and the muted pastels of the calm morning were quickly fading to blue.
He'd be needed before long and-
"Resting?"
"For a moment," Albert replied before gesturing for Yurius to sit. He'd rest a moment longer, now.
They had things to discuss. They always did.
Instead, Albert just quietly took Yurius's hand and-
He said nothing about the tentacle snaking around him. That wasn't any surprise.
Yes, he'd rest for just a few moments longer.
There, in the furthest depths of the cave, Rodney found the remains of the dragon. It had died long enough ago that it was little but white bones and iridescent scales but Rodney stepped back anyway.
Each bone, each scale would fetch a fine price, as would its jewel if it remained.
The dragon had once guarded the previous kingdom, but the kingdom had fallen, the dragon had died, and both had become little more than stories Rodney had heard as a child.
He'd always wondered about the dragon, though.
Now he knew-
Rodney turned to go.
Rian handed the young man his change with an awkward almost-smile that hopefully hid his surprise.
But he had his hood down and horns visible; he wasn't hiding, and this wasn't the first time he'd sold a fresh, clean red apple to this young man.
"Dinner," Rian echoed before slowly nodding. "I need to settle up for the day but can meet you."
Red-faced, like he'd expected to be turned down, the young man stammered out a pub and time.
"I'll see you then," Rian replied.
If nothing else, he'd get a meal.
And, just maybe, he'd get a bit more.
If anyone is interested in a comics fandoms fanworks archive, the CFAA is now open.
More information: https://sl-walker.tumblr.com/post/756459383577264128/home-comic-fanfiction-authors
The name has “fanfiction” but it’s for all fanworks; the name is an homage to https://fanlore.org/wiki/Comic_Fan-Fiction_Authors'_Network.
It’s run by the same admin as the Ad Astra archive (https://www.adastrafanfic.com). It runs otwarchive, so it’s a familiar website/system.
Sticker Mule Trump emails got you down?
Don’t sweat it, there are better alternatives out there…

people have been asking us for printed posters FOREVER but I've always been unsatisfied with just printing out the existing PDFs of our posters -- they didn't feel quite polished enough to me.
So I collaborated with the incredible Tanya at Inner Loop Press (check out their website! it's so good! https://www.innerloop.press/) to make this delightful risograph printed Debugging Manifesto poster.
they're not available just yet but they'll be on the store soon!
A single-sheet, 16 page zine featuring 13 of my MDZS drabbles in 26 different fonts.
A few new niche additions to the site this morning 📚

Lark shook their head.
"I technically can't offer you advice on how to use it," they told their customer as they gestured at the carefully measured packet on the counter.
"I can tell you that it's often taken as four doses, a quarter of the packet at a time, once a day and no more," Lark continued, their voice a bit quieter.
Their customer blinked and then nodded, quickly offering coins for the little packet and then scurrying for the door.
"Lark!"
Lark froze at the sound of the shop owner's voice. Had they gone too far?
"Good job."
Bella took the number she was offered and looked from it to the number currently being served.
She looked to the number again and turned to go. It was her number, after all. She didn't need to leave it there.
She took it for a drive along the water and a walk through the park and then a nice casual lunch.
She debated a movie, but that seemed to be a bit much so instead she just took the number to get ice cream.
And then, later, when she returned to be served, it was very nearly her turn.
Bella thanked the number she took for the lovely day.
