Tormika stopped short and glanced back towards the last market stall she'd passed and sure enough, her brother had paused to peruse its wares.

"Figures of the gods, potent and affordable," the vendor said quickly. "Two for the price of one!"

"Who should we get?" Kee asked, grinning wildly. It was all Tormika could do to keep her expression neutral. Honestly!

"This one!" Kee exclaimed, not waiting before grabbing at a painted figure. "And this one..."

At least he had his own money.

But what was he going to do with figures of them both?

"If it's what works, it's what works."

Sonny hadn't ended up with a wand of wood or bone or glass or thin-spun shimmering silver.

"It works," Sonny said, grinning.

He held up his wand, which was very-nearly a staff and could probably be altered into one, and cast a quick spell at the target downfield.

Everyone stared at the impressive results and then at Sonny, who thunked one end of the long lead pipe against the ground and rested his hand on the other. Perhaps it would become a cane instead.

"It works," Sonny repeated, still grinning.

The morning was already getting warm, Alister noticed as he debated between a high collar or a scarf to cover the telltale marks on his neck.

He did honest work, but the aftermath was always a little awkward, especially when there was shopping to do before the next job.

He didn't mind one of the group being a vampire nor donating when necessary, but...

Well there was probably a compromise that could be made, but that discussion would have to wait until evening.

Alister glanced at the vampire sleeping in his bed and went with the scarf.
