I read about this in relation to this fandom essay about fandom gatekeeping:

"Tourist" in this definition is heavily used in bigoted, alt-right, gamergate-type circles. It's a vile dogwhistle and on any other socmed, an insta-block for a lot of people.
I've read the essay and yes, they are using it with the same intent that I see chuds spewing it. They could be using other terms but have chosen an exceptionally-loaded one with a vile use-history.
@kalloway@fedibird.com I don't know OP and I haven't skimmed their profile. I am preferring to read it in a better faith read in the sense that, I did not know "tourist" is a loaded term
I am trying to understand if there is an action you want me to take, like remove the quote? remove the link? Or is this a discussion about the term?
You can do as you choose in your space. I just was not expecting to see that term tossed around casually and kneejerk-reacted.
@kalloway@fedibird.com In that case, I apologize for causing you distress. Post has been edited to just keep the part in the brackets
@kalloway@fedibird.com Reading the rest of the essay, in context, I don't think the OP meant it in the gamergate way at all
but I'm definitely not asking you to read it, you don't have to. I was quoting it for the bit in the brackets, about lore.fm's shutdown
