Here's the latest variant picture for Japan.

The EG.5.* "Eris" variant (39%) has been dominant since mid-August.

An early read on the growth of BA.2.86.1 "Pirola" gives it a growth advantage of 14% per day over EG.5.*, which predicts an imminent crossover.

The sample volumes seem representative up to September 15.
