Russia renamed its ambitious satellite program after Putin misspoke its name
"So I didn't even make it back and it's already renamed to Sfera."
As is usual with Russian space projects, because they tend to be poorly funded, the timeline for Sphere's deployment has been delayed and its scope reduced. It also underwent an unscheduled name change.

Venus May Have Once Had Earth-Like Plate Tectonics
Venus is the least understood of the terrestrial planets. Despite broad similarities to the Earth in mass and size, Venus has no evidence of plate tectonics recorded on its young surface, and Venus’ atmosphere is strikingly different. New research from Brown University offers evidence that Venus had plate tectonics billions of years ago.

I am a big lefty hippy commie anarchist Marxist liberal tofu-eating wokerati etc etc. But I'm not an idiot. And whilst I like the sentiment that people's worth isn't valued by productivity, I also recognise that people do enjoy things like food, warmth, healthcare and education. Until we come up with a solution to that (ROBOT BODIES), I'm afraid this seems like the best model we have.

Dear German colleagues of #histodon ! Can any one of you transcribe this passage from a letter of 1933? I know it says something along the lines of 'Jewish music will soon be banned, so better times for our German composers will arrive', but I would like to know the literal German text.

So I wrote to Grey Smith, explained how Wikipedia and Creative Commons worked, and asked if he'd be interested in releasing his photo under a more open licence. Not only did he agree, he reset his default licence for all future photos, AND retrospectively changed the licence for his other 8,800 observations—so now they're all available for Wikipedia too, and I've started using them to illustrate other articles.

Hey any journalists on here plz turn your public post indexing on, because most of you haven't and thats why people looking for public information cant find you.

Go to settings > public profile > privacy and reach, select "include public posts in search results"

Not all the fedi wants to be a public space, and thats fine, but some parts should be right now.

Pinning a quote from a lost toot of :

No Democratic Presidential candidate has received a majority of the white vote since the 60s. (Since the Civil Rights act and realignment of the parties.)

Not one. Not any of them.
None.

Even in the last election, which was the easiest election to make the easiest choice and they failed.

It's why suppressing the black vote is so key to these assholes. Black people understand the assignment. Everyone understands the assignment.
