So it is time to clean out the bookroom. Other people may have spare bedrooms, or second bedrooms, but I just have a room with bookshelves and it's lovely. Except it's also... a disaster.
Some of it is from a few years ago when I renovated my big walk-in closet. Weirdly when I was done, I had a ton of extra space but the bookroom was cluttered. And then my job went ridiculous but I also continued acquiring books (and other media).
So it is time. It will not be a fast process, because I get decision-fatigue easily. ^^;;
First pile, at the doorway- a bunch of posters, mostly anime, some from concerts, one from a university Roe anni celebration (ouch) decades ago- fished out three to go and many of the others will get debated.
Underneath, a box of card-backs from my Monster High doll collection. I've been selling the loose dolls without card-backs and they don't seem to have much value. Might put them in a plastic tote in the garage for a bit, once I acquire a plastic tote.
(Easy enough - my 'rents have a stash from their cleanouts. Just need to pick one up.)
A dead CD player. Was left beside the dumpster in the 'don't need anymore maybe someone else can use' area and just... never tested it. Turns on, doesn't do anything else. Alas!
Bag of junk mail dragged in from car. This is recent and I have no idea how it got in here. Dishonor on the cow of whatever charity I donated to who promptly sold my info, though. I now get like three begging letters per day, generally from groups I have no problem with but this has reached the point of ridiculousness. Most of this went to recycling.
Huge random gap is where the YnM manga goes, which was piled elsewhere. It's now put away. I have the B'tX anime, but there wasn't room so it's now on the next shelf up along with basically all of Terra e and an incredibly varied collection of Battle Angel Alita stuff.
I like Alita. I don't talk about it much because it's... just one of those things I like as-is but don't have many thoughts on other than 'yay Alita'.
I also have like ten volumes of the sequel/director's cut manga which I don't like as much and eventually gave up on.
Displaced all of Beauty Pop, a really cute shoujo manga about high school hair stylists (seriously, super-cute, excellent as-is no notes) and Slayers, whoops.
I am a very out-of-sight/out-of-mind person so I don't normally double-row books but for now and also because I can put these in front of Alita which I have concrete-ish plans for.
Slayers is all? of the anime + the eight light novels that Tokyopop put out. I know that the novels are being retranslated and getting physical releases; I should look into them.
Once upon a time, I also had bits of the Slayers manga but it wasn't anything not in the novels/anime and it was really hard to find, so I gave up on it.
Next shelf is all CLAMP, but not all-the-CLAMP. I know Rayearth is elsewhere... I also don't own like, half their stuff. But enough to fill a shelf+
And now I think it's time for a break. It's hot and I'm starting to go aaaaaaaa about things.
(Oh, also took a handful of Macross Frontier gashapon to the kitchen to get washed/cleaned up. Minor sticky + minor dust = bath time!)
@kalloway@fedibird.com so many good ol classics!
I gave away my YnM some years ago
Now I just want to lay around reading old manga, of course.
I was super into YnM for a hot minute back like 20+ years ago, was on every ship mailing list and everything. There was a lot of fun stuff in there but it's also an absolute mess. The fandom itself was actually really cool, though.
I am all for the manga-ka doing whatever he wants but yeah, no.
What I should probably do is sell all of it and pick up that really fancy boxed set of the original manga if it's still available.
(That's part of this exercise - seeing what I'm still missing or can replace with 'better' copies where 'better' sometimes means newer translations or not flopped/mismatched or whatever. Obvs not going to that with everything because $$ but for the stuff that's meant a lot to me, sure why not.)
Also a little goofy series by the same manga-ka, on that shelf.
