円谷才一のエッセイ集『双六で東海道』を読了した。軽妙な文章でとても読みやすいし、下世話な話もユーモアもたまに出て、飽きられない。言葉を思うままに操るその技量にすごく感心したが、最後渡辺保さんの解説を読まないと、間やカワリなど、円谷さん文章の本当の良さが全く分かっていないなあということに気付かないだろう。
