There's a second part to this, which is sometimes people say to me "I'm not anything!".

I'm here to tell you that you are. Religions and cultures aren't just a set of beliefs- they permeate the culture.

That's especially true if you don't believe but you still celebrate the holidays- that's the same thing.

Moreover, not realizing that means you aren't realizing that your culture is the predominant/most powerful one, making others the minority.

When you encounter a religion you don't know or understand, please do not tell someone "It's the ___ version of ___."

Al Adha is not the Muslim Easter.

Hanukkah is not the Jewish Christmas.

When you say that kind of thing, you are dismissing someone's experience and their identity because it makes you feel comfortable, but in doing so, you are erasing their identity.
