It's with a heavy heart that today, we're unfortunately announcing the closure of Aethy. Due to the recent political climate of the USA, it's no longer safe to keep the website running. With attacks increasing on the queer community and our allies, we have to prioritize our own safety and the safety of our users.

We have been in discussion about what to do since the latest election results. The incoming president has made it clear that he wishes to see spaces like our's attacked and shutdown. Unfortunately, we have decided that it's best to simply close the site down. We discussed the prospect of transferring the site to a different owner but we don't want our user's data to be open to attack now or in the future.

Aethy will stay up for 30 days. In that time, you'll be able to transfer your account to another fediverse host. Registrations will be closed but the site will continue to function as normal in that time.

We'd like to thank everyone for the past wonderful two years 💖​ Our community was one of the most special places on the internet and we will always be grateful for you all.

I am sad to hear the news of aethy shutting down. Already I am receiving a lot of requests for accounts from aethy users on top of the backlog of applications I still have to get through.

I am also seeing concerns over the future of our own instance here. Please know that if baraag shuts down it is because I have exhausted every possible avenue to keep this community alive. I will not give up for as long as I can legally and financially afford to maintain baraag.
