A man opens a roadside stall selling fish. He puts up a sign: ‘fresh fish sold here’. Then he thinks: of course they are fresh. No one sells rotten fish. And he removes the word fresh. Then the word here is removed, because what, people will think it is somewhere else? Then he also removes the word sold since no one imagines he is giving it away for free. Finally the word ‘fish’ is erased because everyone can see the fish on offer and know that they are fish...
