Haven't been to a big show in…decades, but recently heard some Phish Deer Creek "tapes." I was shocked by the constant hum of voices throughout the show, as if the entire crowd were making dinner conversation.

Rick Beato recently took some flack for saying the experience of music had been cheapened by streaming. For years I've felt we were being conditioned to think of music as something in the background. Music is piped into every space, even outdoors. Talking over it has been normalized.
